Regulatory Scientist, Molecular Biologist

JOB DESCRIPTION:
 

  • BASF Plant Science (GB) is seeking to a Scientist, Molecular Biologist to join its Regulatory Sciences laboratory.
  • The individual selected for this position will be responsible for characterization and safety assessments of DNA inserts contained in BASF Plant Science's biotechnology crop products.
  • The Scientist will provide both molecular and DNA data defense expertise to the Regulatory Science laboratory.
  • He/she will be responsible for cloning, sequencing and characterizing the insert and crop genomic flanking sequences.
  • The ability to design, interpret and produce final reports for studies using Southern blot analyses and other molecular studies will also be an important part of this Scientist's responsibilities.

Additional responsibilities of the position include:

  • Maintaining expertise in the current industry-standards for the scientific interpretation of the global regulatory requirements.
  • Serving as Study Director for GLP studies, writing and review GLP Study Protocols and Final Reports, and interfacing with Study Sponsors to assure the safety studies meet the regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

REQUIRED:

  • BS plus 13 years research experience • OR • MS plus 10 years research experience • OR • PhD plus 5 years research experience. Degree must be in the areas of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, plant biology, horticulture, agronomy or related field.
  • Experience in the following techniques:
  • Cloning
  • Genome walking
  • DNA isolation/quantification
  • PCR, RT-PCR
  • Southern blot analysis and interpretation
  • DNA sequencing
  • Experience in documentation and writing study protocols and high quality technical reports.
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, oral and written communication, and teamwork skills. Detail and results oriented.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities and ability to function as a supervisor.

PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of Vector NTI, LabShare, BLAST, FASTA.
  • Experience in a GLP environment.
  • Working knowledge of agriculture biotech regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in Bioinformatics.
