Manager, Project Support

Location: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Incumbent will lead the Project Support group within the Plant Science (GB) PMO, and therefore oversee all activities regarding portfolio management, project and process governance and direct project support.

Incumbent will have direct responsibility for the Plant Science project management manual, stage plan, planning philosophy and systems, risk analysis and the process of project goal setting and evaluation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the Project Support group within GB PMO and oversee following activities:
  • Portfolio management, project controlling, reporting to BASF SE and GB EMT.
  • Interface to BASF Innovation Management (GOH) and Strategic Planning & Controlling (ZZ).
  • Process Governance and establishment of Business Process Management at GB.
  • Direct Project Support, e.g. cross project analysis, planning and Stage Promotion preparation.
  • Implement and continually develop the GB project management philosophy as outlined in the GB Project Management Manual and Stage Plan.
  • Run project risk assessment (REAP) and goal setting and evaluation processes, ensuring common standards and quality and provide a cross project picture to Executive Management.
  • Lead the establishment of a realistic project planning philosophy at GB and ensure the development of appropriate planning systems through management of a cross functional team. Conduct quarterly Rolling Planning updates across project and functions.
  • Together with Controlling, lead the annual budgeting process.
  • Guide and participate in cross-project analyses and initiatives to increase efficiency, quality and/or foster experience exchange across projects.
  • Together with all Project Analysts in Project Support, ensure a comprehensive and consistent view on the GB project portfolio.

REQUIREMENTS: - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Required:

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in a relevant Life Science discipline, with at least 6 years of experience in research or development.
  • Proven on-the-job leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills: able to inform and persuade both orally and in writing.
  • Creative, motivated team player with grit and a strong analytical mindset.
  • Sound knowledge on the use of IT office tools.
  • Ability to meet goals and to attain the desired results under time pressure and in a fast changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Knowledge of German would be an advantage, but is not a requirement.
