Agronomy and Environmental Safety Scientist (Biotechnology Regulatory)
Location: Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA JOB DESCRIPTION:
BASF Plant Science is seeking to appoint an innovative and experienced Biotechnology Regulatory Scientist specializing in agronomic and environmental safety assessments of biotech crop plants.
Specifically, the Biotechnology Regulatory Scientist will be responsible for developing and implementing study plans for phenotypic and agronomic evaluations and environmental safety studies with transgenic crop plants compared to conventional control varieties under field conditions.
This role will work collaboratively with the Regulatory Affairs team to ensure agreement on study design, details, quality expectations and delivery timelines to support regulatory submissions in the primary production country, as well as in key import countries.
Will serve as a Study Director or Principal Investigator on phenotypic, agronomic and environmental safety studies, and will be required to have previous experience conducting studies under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Incumbent will interact with the BASF Plant Science Development group for effective execution of the regulatory field studies, and to ensure proper test substance production and seed handling/processing under GLP.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing study protocols.
- Identifying appropriate test facilities and field sites to meet government competent authorities’ requirements.
- Ensuring that the studies are conducted according to the approved study protocol.
- Proper data collection processes are followed.
- Appropriate statistical analyses are used.
- The writing of high quality regulatory study reports and summary documents.
REQUIREMENTS: - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Required:
- MS Degree in the areas of Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Biology, Horticulture, Ecology, Environmental Science or Related Fields, with at least 7 years of experience - OR - BS Degree in the areas of Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Biology, Horticulture, Ecology, Environmental Science or Related Fields, with at least 10 years of experience.
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in conducting phenotypic, agronomic assessments and environmental safety studies with transgenic crop plants such as: maize, rice, soybean, and canola.
- Working knowledge of statistical analyses using programs such as ARM, SAS and JMP.
- Must have demonstrated experience in documentation and writing study protocols and high quality technical reports.
- Should be knowledgeable and experienced with conducting field trials under GLP.
- Strong intercultural orientation and interest in a multicultural environment with the ability to work in or with a multinational team is of substantial importance for this position.
- Well developed leadership and project management abilities and be a creative, motivated team player.
- Experience demonstrating cross-functional communication, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Will be required to focus on multiple issues at one time. Must have the ability to meet goals and to attain the desired results, often under time pressure and in a fast changing environment.
Desired:
- PhD degree in the areas of Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Biology, Horticulture, Ecology, Environmental Science or Related Fields, with at least five years of experience.
- Experience with electronic notebook keeping.
- Experience with regulatory requirements for working with transgenic crops under field conditions in different countries.
