Nuseed is currently seeking a Trait Advancement Manager to complement its international canola breeding activities on a fulltime, permanent basis.
The position is based in Horsham, Victoria, Australia and there will be relocation assistance available for the right candidate. The incumbent will be responsible for all trait advancement activities in Nuseed’s Canola, Monola (high oleic) and Omega 3 programs.
We are seeking a highly motivated plant scientist with experience in plant breeding, trait introgression and line advancement. The Trait Advancement Manager will report to the Global Canola Breeding Lead, and will work closely with established teams of plant breeders, molecular biologists, technical support staff and agronomists to deliver improved germplasm to the international markets served by Nuseed.
Qualifications and experience:
The ideal candidate will have five or more years experience in a similar position. A minimum BSc is a requirement of the position; however, an MSc or PhD in plant breeding or a related discipline would be preferred – ideally with considerable experience in a commercial plant breeding program.
Experience in the following would also be highly regarded:
- Leading trait advancement projects, in both field and greenhouse, including managing staff, equipment and resource allocation, and monitoring/improving efficiency.
- Integrating the use of DH, MAS and related procedures to enhance efficiency.
- Large-scale data management and use of plant breeding databases.
- Projects involving GM traits, including managing confined release trials and the associated stewardship protocols.
- Managing laboratory activities, including marker-assisted breeding, seed quality analysis and knowledge of related analytical instrumentation, with a strong focus on work-flow optimization.
