Vegetable Seed Sales Representative, SEEDWAY - Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia Territory
Location: Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia Territory, USA SEEDWAY, headquartered in Hall, N.Y., markets one of the most extensive and diverse commercial vegetable seed product lines in the industry, sold from the Rocky Mountains to the East coast and in Ontario, Canada. SEEDWAY also offers extensive lines of turf and farm seed. SEEDWAY employees work in locations in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, and Florida. SEEDWAY is part of the GROWMARK System, a regional agriculture cooperative serving more than 250,000 customers across North America.
PURPOSE AND SUMMARY STATEMENT
Responsible for sales of vegetable seeds, within an assigned territory - Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, working closely with the Sales Manager and Sales Specialists for the purposes of cross-selling to customers and dealers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for conducting seed sales calls with targeted customers, as well as assist crops specialists with key account calls Implements company goals and objectives that will grow the seed business and develop profitable relationships with customers
- Provides leadership for the development and/or implementation of all seed training and seed support needs
- Provides assistance with and implements seed sales strategies that generate profitable sales Implements innovative sales programs and pricing strategies
- Participates in selected sales activities, i.e. customer meetings, trade shows, sales meeting to keep abreast of sales trends and sales environment
- Creates and manages a whole farm proposal by providing value-added seed products, services, and recommendations on a frequent basis
- Expedites the resolution of customer problems and complaints
- Scouts crops to ensure they meet the appropriate agronomic conditions and makes proper recommendations regarding ways to improve and increase customer satisfaction
- Maintains accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities
- Maintains a current knowledge of product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, advertising, and promotional trends
- Ensures field signs are displayed on customers’ fields
- Completes and maintains a competitive analysis for all key competitors
- Identifies progressive customers and coordinates the sharing of these lists with energy, agronomy, and grain sales representatives
- Quotes prices, and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained and promotes the use of credit programs as a sales tool and helps provide the required information to establish credit
- Completes all reports as required
- Works with Microsoft Office products and other proprietary software to enhance business processes and maximize efficiency
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintains industry and university contacts to keep informed on developing trends and product introductions in assigned product areas
- Creates and participates in presentations during customer meetings and trades shows as required
- Responsible for maintaining the assigned vehicle according to company standards
- Follows GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA and DOT policies and procedures, as they apply
- Performs all other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Normally requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, marketing, or other related discipline and a minimum of 4 years seed selling experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to demonstrate strong reasoning ability to solve practical problems and handle customer and/or operational issues
- Demonstrated GROWMARK core competencies including business knowledge, collaboration, communication, customer focus, decision making, and skill development
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Must be able to travel independently and overnight
- Must be willing to work hours beyond those considered “normal”
- Ability and willingness to participate in required training that may include education on GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and additional training as it relates to the requirements of the position
