The Field Service Electronics Specialist position is an important role in the organization, in that they are the voice and face of ALMACO. We pride ourselves on providing fast and effective service to our agricultural research equipment, and need friendly, outgoing individuals to perform maintenance and support in the field and on the phone.
We are seeking an individual with experience in troubleshooting electronic and software issues for electromechanical equipment.
This position will travel 30-50% of the time to support our clients at their work sites. Sometimes travel will be for extended periods of time and will occur on short notice during our peak seasons (spring and fall).
Responsibilities in this position:
1. Travels to customer and user sites as an ALMACO field representative to provide electrical and mechanical support and expertise.
- Represents ALMACO with a high level of professionalism at all times.
- Performs in-field orientations when requested by customers.
- Travels to customer/user sites, at times on short notice, to make emergency repairs so that critical planting and harvesting and seed-processing operations are not delayed.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves electrical problems.
- Isolates and diagnoses Printed Circuit Board (PCB) problems and solders, reworks, and repairs as needed.
- Programs PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers) and diagnoses PLC related issues.
- Performs tests on ALMACO software at customer sites to troubleshoot problems and optimize performance.
- Explains and markets ALMACO equipment and applications to customers during on-site visits.
- Collect information on customer needs such as replacement parts, additional service, or future product needs and route requests to the appropriate department.
- Installs complex technical equipment at customer / user site, and instructs on operation and maintenance.
2. Provides technical support to customers via phone or e-mail specific to ALMACO specialized research products.
- Communicates with all customers in a professional and courteous manner, resulting in 100% client satisfaction.
- Resolves customer problems over the phone or via e-mail upon first contact whenever possible.
- Explains and markets ALMACO equipment and applications to customers as needed.
- Trouble-shoots, diagnoses and resolves electrical / mechanical problems using digital multimeters, digital oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools.
- Initiates parts orders shipments accurately and quickly.
3. Assists Engineering and Quality Control Departments in the testing of new and modified research equipment.
- Assists with building and testing prototype equipment.
- Records results and data for analysis of testing on new and modified research equipment.
- Reviews and checks new designs and modifications to help ensure they meet all quality standards.
- Interacts with sales, customers, suppliers, engineers and manufacturing personnel to develop new and improved products.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required - Associate's Degree or Trade/Technical School certification in an electronic field is preferred.
- At least two years successful experience with building, testing, trouble-shooting, and repairing electro-mechanical equipment and devices is required.
- Previous experience with agricultural equipment or seed research is preferred.
- Valid Driver's License is required.
- Ability to explain complex technical information in person, over the phone, and via email is necessary to communicate with co-workers and clients.
- Ability to use a digital oscilloscope and multimeter is required.
- Must have experience programming and repairing PLC's.
