BASF - the Chemical Company - consolidated its plant biotechnology activities in BASF Plant Science in 1998. Today, about 700 employees are working to optimize crops for more efficient agriculture, renewable raw materials and healthier nutrition, we are currently seeking a Quality Field Sepcialist located in the Research Triangle Park, NC area.

The Quality Field Specialist (QFS) is responsible for identifying needs, conducting training, and assuring adherence to standards for technical quality, regulatory compliance, and responsible care in field trial and seed production programs located in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. These responsibilities will also include work done in contained facilities, labs and greenhouses. The QFS will monitor, instruct, and support BASF Plant Science employees and contract personnel in these areas and create documents and reports as part of a comprehensive Quality Management System. The work responsibilities will focus on the North Carolina area, while providing support to other team members throughout North America. The incumbent may be located anywhere in the area, with daily activities concentrated on the RTP area and surrounding field sites.

Regional travel, up to 30%, will be expected throughout the growing season, with occasional travel outside the region.

QUALIFICATIONS
- BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

REQUIRED:

  • M.S. degree in Agriculture or Life Sciences or related field and 4 years’ field or Greenhouse experience
  • BS degree Agriculture or Life Sciences or related field and 7 years field or Greenhouse experience.
  • Applied agronomy (in the field of crop production or plant breeding), or plant biotechnology (with experience in field studies), or a closely related field.
  • Field or Greenhouse experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of agronomic principles.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the safe operation of field and research equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with stewardship principles.
  • Cross-functional communication, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet goals and to attain the desired results, often under time pressure and in a fast changing environment.
  • Fluent in English, with good writing skills.

DESIRED:

  • Experience with field studies of genetically modified plants.
  • Experience with Quality Management and Safety programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving across various situations.
  • Awareness of underlying key scientific, regulatory, legal, public policy and technology acceptance issues for genetically modified crops, with broad Biotechnology industry knowledge.
  • Regulated Plot Testing.
  • Experience with GLP Trials
  • Familiar with multiple crops
  • Managed a greenhouse
  • Analytical Laboratory experience.
  • Experience working on Quality Documents.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
