Sr. Agricultural Formulation Chemist
Location: Alsip, Illinois (Chicago area) and Morrisville, North Carolina (RTP area) Scope:
Responsible for all phases of formulation development, with a focus on fungicide, insecticide, seed treatment and growth regulator crop protection products. Position requires independent development of all formulation types from concept to production, and the ability to provide key recommendations for a successful product launch. Position will to report to Formulation Development Director and requires some travel.
Duties:
- Participates with business units in planning product concepts and attributes.
- Conducts research experiments for the identification, evaluation, and development of new formulations under the direction of R&D Management and Marketing.
- Conducts all aspects of laboratory work including safety, record keeping, and formulation equipment for the preparation of LC, EC SC, SE, ME, DF and GR formula types.
- Operates the following: rotor mill, air jet mill, wet bead mill, dome extruder, fluid bed drier, high shear mixers, V & Cone spray blender, seed treatment mixer.
- Conducts initial and storage stability studies and performs physical property assays using wet chemical techniques (such as emulsification, suspensibility, viscosity) as well as laser particle size measurements.
- Interprets laboratory data and generates appropriate technical reports and recommendations for EPA registration.
- Travels to and directs the scale up of new products at manufacturing locations and provides key feedback to Operations group.
- Provides technical assistance for seed treatment custom blends
- Keeps current on industry and competitor’s products pertaining to Agricultural formulation technology.
- Trouble shoots manufacturing problems and provides customer technical service.
- Manages and direct a technical assistant.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Advanced degree in Chemistry preferred (MS/PhD).
- Minimum of 10 years experience in AG Formulations in one or all of the following areas: herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, plant growth regulators, seed treatment.
- Ability to understand and work with formulation process equipment.
- Proficient in English language and excellent communication skills; verbal and written.
- Computer literate with latest office technology.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.
