We are currently seeking a Field Trial Coordinator to be a member of the Development Management team within the BASF Plant Science organization. This team performs critical activities necessary to advance plant breeding and biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effectively as possible.
The Field Trial Coordinator - Rice principally supports the North American region, but may provide some support Rice activities globally. After receiving trial and nursery requirements from the Global Rice Development Manager, the Coordinator - Rice will assist the Rice Field Trial and Applied Genetics Managers with trial and nursery planning. Due to the Coordinator's proximity to RTP Regulatory and Stewardship functions, the Coordinator will work very closely with both functions to execute the proper compliance documentation of trial and nursery protocols , including GLP field studies which require strict adherence to Regulatory requirements for reconstructable records management. The Rice Coordinator also plays a key role as interface to these same functions during the field trial sign-off process, a key step to secure authorization to release regulated Rice materials into the field. The Coordinator - Rice will be assisting or be fully responsible for contracting trials and follow-up with contractual parties regarding seed availability, trial progress, data capture and reporting. The Coordinator shall serve as PRISM Power User for any queries by field technicians and serves as interface between field staff and the IT department. Along with the Development Manager and Field Trial Managers, the Coordinator will serve as a second interface for trial activities supporting Research groups. While the position focuses on Rice, the position will function flexibly to assist Development Managers in other crops as needed.
Additional Responsibilities include:
- Trial planning under direction of the Global Development Manager in close cooperation with the responsible Field Trial Manager and the Applied Genetics Manager.
- Trial supervision and reporting, summarizing and initial data interpretation.
- Assisting the regulatory group in the establishment of GLP-study plans for field trials and ensuring that all necessary data capture is reflected in the trial protocol
- Interface between field technicians and IT-group in questions related to the use, the further development and implementation of PRISM across projects in Global Field Development
- Assist Development Managers in coordinating efforts with Regulatory, Stewardship and Research groups
- Assist in the administration of Stewardship principles by review of service provider contracts and adherence to administrative and operational SOPs
- Assist with updating of planning records and trials status
Qualifications
Required:
- PhD degree in agronomy, agricultural or horticultural sciences, plant breeding or related field with 2 years relevant experience -OR- MS degree in agronomy, agricultural or horticultural sciences, plant breeding or related field with 7 years relevant experience -OR-BS degree in agronomy, agricultural or horticultural sciences, plant breeding or related field with at least 10 years relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of biometric principles, field trial design and statistical tools for the analysis and interpretation of field trials.
- Demonstrated experience with trial supervision and reporting, summarizing and data interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated experience constructing GLP study plans and trials.
- Experience with regulated crops.
- Demonstrated background in corn, rice, canola, sunflowers or soybeans.
- Experience with PRISM or similar field trial management tool.
