Contractor Manager, Stewardship - Plant Science

The Contractor Manager in BASF Plant Science establishes guidelines on how to select, certify and recertify new contractors and research partners for services involving transgenic material. He / she verifies that contractors and partners follow BASF Plant Science standards required for the performance of the activities - while ensuring the following:
- Services are conducted with high level of quality
- Performance is monitored continuously and gaps are addressed and resolved by corrective measures
- Adherence to SOPs where required
- Regulatory compliance guidelines are followed
- Compliance with Responsible Care practices
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE POSITION INCLUDE:
- Establishes guidelines and requirements on how to select and certify new suppliers and service providers, recertify existing suppliers and service providers for work involving transgenic material (lab, greenhouse, field related activities)
- Verify that suppliers and service providers follow standards required for the performance of the activities by conducting certification, inspections or audits
- Based on the services agreed, assess the validity of the suppliers and service providers' standard operating procedures (coordination with document manager). Provide relevant SOPs and training in case service providers' standards prove insufficient
- Coordinate with the Risk Manager, the Non-Conformance Manager, and the internal contact with the supplier or service provider in case gaps of stewardship performance are reported
- Monitor and report on the implementation of the corrective action appropriate to the severity of the Gap Analysis found at the supplier or service provider
- Work to ensure GB Stewardship standards agreed upon are incorporated into the supplier and service provider contracts
QUALIFICATIONS:
BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
REQUIRED:
- Bachelors degree with at least 10 years experience or Masters degree with 7 years experience
- Ability to travel (approximately 25% of working time)
- Hands-on experience with Contractor and Service Provider assessment and certification (e.g. ISO, GLP, Balanced Scorecard, Six Sigma) and implementing corrective and preventive actions
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills to be able to work effectively with all levels and functions inside and outside the organization
- Excellent communications and presentation skills to be able to inform and persuade both orally and in writing, also across cultures; excellent written and verbal English skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills to question practices and improve approaches and ability to meet goals and to attain the desired results, often under time pressure;
- Be a creative, motivated team player with an analytical mindset
