Area Crop Specialist
Location: Bakersfield, California, USA Contract authorized production orders with the best growers, and advises growers on proper management practices in order to meet the sales demand
- Aide in the planting, spraying and harvesting of contracted and company seed production in order to apply and maintain best practice procedures
- Supervise rogueing crews and maintain log of off types removed for proper history and QA data
- Measure fields and prepare maps of cultivations hired, 30 days after sowing and/or planting in order to ensure accurate data and planning
- Apply and monitor company standards: i.e., isolation, pest control seed purity, germination, disease, pollination and weed control in order to assure seed quality standards
- Direct timely control of specific agricultural tasks, i.e., load/unload stock roots and bulbs, identify, mark and/or destroy pollinator rows, sort and box in case of onion the bulbs in order to ensure proper quality, identity and proper delivery
- Evaluate nicking trials, production research trials and all hybrid productions in order to ensure sterility for production technique and yield improvements
- Dissect seed and process mill samples to ensure further quality control determination
- Through continual communication and distribution of monthly reporting, keep the Area Crop Manager informed of on-going crop production activity and problems in respect to field, purity or germination
- Timely and accurate delivery of year-end rogueing and nicking trial reports
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelors in agriculture related field with 3 years of experience in farming and/or agronomic practices
- Ability to obtain and keep updated Pesticide Consultants License (USA)
- Proficiency with MS Office products
- Must be capable and competent of operating various farm machinery
- Must be able to safely lift weight like 25 kg.
Working conditions
- Mainly in the fields outdoor or in greenhouses, minor admin, work.
- Requires domestic travel.
- Field environment including heat, dust and working within the vicinity of bee hives.
Key Success Factors
- Obtain what is requested in the production orders between 100 and 120% yield in hybrid varieties and between 100 and 110 % in standard varieties.
- Achieve requested production orders at high physical and genetic company standards. Accurate and timely reports which finalize results of trials, hybrid integrity, and chemical updates.
