BASF - the Chemical Company - consolidated its plant biotechnology activities in BASF Plant Science in 1998. Today, about 800 employees are working to optimize crops for more efficient agriculture, renewable raw materials and healthier nutrition. We are currently looking for a Scientist.
The incumbent will be a member of the Molecular Biology Function at BASF Plant Science’s RTP facility. The team seeks to understand gene and genome function, gene control and networks and related areas, such as epigenetics, genome integrity and chromatin structure, in support of all Plant Science projects. In addition, the tasks include competitive intelligence gathering as well as strategic planning for the area of responsibility. This individual will work closely with other BASF Plant Science colleagues to ensure project timelines are met and goals are accomplished.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Implement team goals together with colleagues
- Part of a team responsible for the working use of molecular/DNA technologies for other functions and projects within BASF Plant Science
- Preparation of data summaries, reports and presentations of research results
- Helps drive innovation of new research ideas and project concepts to further BASF Plant Science traits
- Responsible, together with functional and local administrative management for the implementation and adherence to all applicable safety, stewardship and other legal requirements
- Builds an effective internal network and supports the local function head in building an external network with leading experts in academia and industry
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology or related field with 2 years of research experience -OR- M.S. degree in Molecular Biology or related field with 7 years of research experience -OR- B.S degree in Molecular Biology or related field with 10 years of research experience. BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
- Proven record of success with multiple peer reviewed publications or patented research results related to the incumbent’s area of expertise in one or more of the areas of gene regulation, small RNA biology, chromatin structure, epigenetics, genome repair, or synthetic biology
- Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment encompassing multiple disciplines
Preferred:
- Plant biotechnology experience
- Experience with complex cloning strategies
