Research Assistant Molecular Breeding

Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India

With more than 1,500 people Nunhems is present in all major Vegetable Production areas in the world.

This position would be located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.

The primary responsibility will be in proper execution of genomics projects mainly TILLING & Assist in MAB projects.

Applicant would also be responsible for coordination with Scientist, design and execute kill curve experiments for Genomics projects mainly TILLING (25% of the work) time planning and budgets. Monitor the day to day crop management of Tilling projects. Day to day observation recording - interesting phenotypes in tilling projects. ICIS- Preparation of sowing, harvesting & observations list. Regular update of harvest list, coding for seed packets, field tags. Preparation shipment of seeds to concerned person with co-ordination with traffic department. Assist in conducting phenotyping for interesting mutants (water melon – apart from 5,000 seed lots sent to Italy remaining population will be kept in India and when needed plants has to be raised for leaf sample collection for genotyping)

Masters in Plant Genetics and Breeding/ Plant Molecular Biology/ or related field from a recognised University. 6 months to 1 year experience in seed industry will be added advantage.

Skills and Other Prerequisites for the job

  • Skills in handling and application of molecular biology techniques for crop plants.
  • Knowledge of genetics, plant breeding, and molecular biology required.
  • Should have sound technical knowledge and be able to learn quickly the new technologies to be applied in commercial plant breeding
  • Strong communication skills would be an added advantage.
  • Proper project execution would be a vital ingredient required in this role.
  • Coordination and interaction among the members of molecular breeding and breeding teams.
