Group Leader – Weed Control
£55,000 - £65,000 + benefits inc. relocation assistance
We are looking for an experienced, senior-level weed control specialist to head up the Weed Control Research Biology Group at Jealott’s Hill and lead our global R&D initiatives in weed control.
This is a critical issue for global food production, especially as weeds develop resistance to currently used herbicides. At Syngenta, we’re leading the discovery and development of new technologies that will enable farmers around the world to meet the challenge posed by weeds.
In this vital, high-profile role, you’ll provide thought leadership, strategic direction and critical thinking for an international research programme that embraces conventional, emerging and adjacent technologies in order to establish new weed control methods. The role will entail leading, motivating and mentoring ca. 25 scientific staff, optimising the considerable resources we have put into our weed control programme, and seamlessly aligning R&D in this field to our long-term business strategy. Your significant responsibilities will include managing the internal group budget and external research collaborations on behalf of the global herbicides business.
The seniority of the role calls for a conceptual thinker with extensive knowledge of the practice and science of weed control in the global environment – this could have been gained in industry, academia or government. Broad understanding of the agrochemical business, particularly of products and trends in the herbicide marketplace, will be essential. A proven team manager with an open, accessible and inspirational style, you’ll be decisive, influential, adaptable and able to juggle priorities.
As well as the chance to make a tangible contribution to the output of herbicides as an aid to global food production, you can expect an attractive package that includes relocation assistance if appropriate.
