Nunhems global Research & Development activities are coordinated and steered from the head office in Haelen, The Netherlands. For our Breeding department we are looking for a full time Head of Breeding EuMeA, based in Italy (Sant’ Agata Bolognese)
Job purpose
Ensure in an effective and efficient way a continuous flow of commercially successful varieties by managing, steering consolidating and approving the processes of continuous crop improvement for Nunhems crops in Nunhems-specific markets , with a short time-to-market and within the departmental budget by designing, consolidating deciding and implementing the breeding strategy for Nunhems in line with the overall R&D plan of the strategic plan and approve the crop specific breeding policy within the breeding strategy.
Major Accountabilities
- Steer, as an R&D Teamleader, one of the R&D teams within the R&D division and represent the related crop in the Strategical Crop Team (SCT).
- Consolidate the Long-term-Crop-Design-process for the Management Board in order to facilitate, provide advice and enable divisional and corporate strategic decision making.
- Ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.
- Ensure having key state of the art technologies available in the breeding area and analyze potential impacts of new technologies and breeding methods in the breeding programs in order to ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.
- Advise the Managing Director of R&D and the Global Head of Breeding regarding the Breeding strategy and policies.
- Design, propose, consolidate advice, decide, and implement the long and short term breeding strategy in line with the R&D strategy and within the Nunhems corporate strategy.
- Prepare, consolidate, implement and manage the breeding department budgets.
- Manage and steer the breeding department, the breeding programs and the operational units (Farms) in 6 countries within EuMEA.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- PhD or Msc in plant breeding or genetics;
- Thorough knowledge of breeding, practically and theoretically;
- Knowledge of affiliated technologies;
- Eight years experience in a breeding position or research position
- Intercultural management experience;
- English (fluent) and preferable Italian.
- Experience HRM, finance and accounting, business strategy, project management, marketing;
- Functional competencies: convincing, solving problems, analytical thinking, organizing, entrepreneurship, innovative.
- High frequency of international travel (25 – 30%).
