We are currently seeking a Trait Geneticist for our Corporate office in Westfield, Indiana.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, supervise, and analyze experiments to screen germplasm for biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in cooperation with Breeders as well as the Production and Marketing Departments
- Identify and develop genetic material for native trait discovery and association studies.
- Coordinate implementation of research findings to validation programs and introgression into breeding system.
- Devise experimentation to validate discovered native traits and/or associated markers in collaboration with the molecular-marker laboratory, European colleagues and breeders.
- Assist with analysis of phenotypic and genotypic data using advanced IT tools in conjunction with biostatistics team.
- Conduct phenotypic field screening and testing programs for the molecular and statistical teams, using proper experimental design and interaction of these teams.
- Develop and implement strategies to integrate native traits into breeding programs in collaboration with the molecular marker laboratory and breeders.
- Interact with breeding and marketing teams to develop research goals in line with current demands.
Duties and responsibilities may be revised as needed by the supervisor either verbally and / or in writing.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D. in plant breeding, plant physiology, phytopathology or related field.
- Strong background in genetics, molecular-marker technology as well as design and analysis of experiments.
- Knowledge of gene discovery strategies.
- Strong basis in agronomy, plant physiology, phytopathology, and integrated pest management is required.
- Practical experience in field experimentation is preferred.
- Experience in genetic mapping, QTL analysis, and association studies. Familiarity with standard general-purpose software for linkage mapping and marker-trait association studies.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with laboratory scientists and breeders.
