AgReliant Genetics is currently seeking a Station Manager/Corn Breeder for our Kearney, Nebraska location.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for research facility, or portion of facility devoted to crop; responsible for own budget, responsible for conducting a maize breeding program in Nebraska.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, customer service and professionalism; responsible for promoting a positive image of the company and the research department.
- Develop breeding & testing program for Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas that produces commercial inbreeds and hybrids competitive with products on the market in those areas.
- Supports management decisions regarding strategy of the research department.
- Manage Budget for the station as assigned by management each year. Oversee proper maintenance of AgReliant research facility and equipment. Works closely with Human Resources to staff full-time positions.
- Supervise 3-4 research associates to work cooperatively and efficiently as a team.
- Assist in the education and training of new AgReliant associates and interns
- Travel to AgReliant winter nurseries in Puerto Rico, Chile, and/or Argentina
- Travel to Europe for internal Research Meetings with Parent companies.
- Participate & cooperate with Molecular Breeding team on projects of mutual interest.
- Other duties as required.
Duties and responsibilities may be revised as needed by the Director of Corn Research either verbally and/or in writing.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. degree with a minimum of 5 years experience in corn breeding.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a corn research program.
- Excellent planning and organization skills; ability to plan and manage multiple projects completely and accurately; attention to detail; problem analysis and problem resolution skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills required, working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred) and common PC-based software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work required hours;
- ability to lift 50 lbs.;
- ability to work in both field and station as required;
- requires 30-40 nights of travel a year;
- must have valid driver’s license and meet MVR guidelines of the company.
