PCR Quality Control Optimizer

Location: Lubbock, Texas, USA

Bayer CropScience is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Quality Assurance Team. In this role, you will be responsible to improve or optimize analytical processes and software systems in the Quality Assurance laboratory at the BioScience Innovation Center, Lubbock, TX to ensure harmonized global approaches.

The incumbent will:

  • Evaluate laboratory requirements and define, prioritize and implement globally harmonized process improvement projects, including coaching and training of laboratory staff;
  • Coach and complement, when necessary, team members in design and planning;
  • Scout and evaluate innovative technologies;
  • Develop, validate, and roll out new methodologies;
  • Execute and/or supervise routine work assignments / projects;
  • Manage confidentiality of competitive know-how;
  • Ensure compliance with all existing safety and stewardship standards in the area of responsibility, taking into account laws, regulations and directives;
  • Travel domestically and internationally, as needed.

The selected candidate is required to possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a biotechnology discipline such as Plant Molecular Biology or Molecular Biology plus 3 year’s relevant biotechnology laboratory experience;
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of technical aspects of molecular biology laboratory techniques including sample preparation, DNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, and preferably experience with laboratory automation, liquid handling and software systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities and accomplish objectives through others without direct reporting lines, especially to leverage subject matter expertise. Exhibit the desire to innovate and drive change, exercising leadership to challenge assumptions and get things done;
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities in an environment requiring balance between operational effectiveness, quality, cost, reliability, traceability and safety. Ensures use of most appropriate technical approaches to a scientific objective (cost, timing, quality);
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships, respecting others and their input on issues and opportunities;
  • Proactive and transparent communication on planning and progress of assigned projects;
  • Familiarity with the use of fundamental bioinformatics tools;
  • Proficient Computer skills: MS Office, other scientific programs as needed;
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in plant molecular biology or related discipline;
  • Experience in plant biotechnology industry;
  • Experience with laboratory automation, liquid handling and software systems.
