Head of Processing
Location: Parma, Idaho, USA JOB DESCRIPTION
- Develop, implement and ensure the regional processing objectives are met according to set guidelines and timelines in order to achieve personal targets that are in line with the global departmental objectives, divisional objectives and corporate goals
- Analyze the regional processing activities in order to support the changes needed for the growth of regional processing activities
- Advise the Global Head of Processing about the need for regional departmental resources in order to fulfill the regional Sales plan
- Develop and maintain regional internal and external communication networks in order to to ensure that the regional processing activities are managed up to or above market standards
- Management of cost awareness in Processing and in searching for improvements and efficiencies in order to minimize process costs
- Manage and steer the regional Processing department in line with the global Processing Strategy, in order to provide the desired seed forms and seed treatments to the market according sales planning in an effective and efficient way
- Ensure intensive global communication and cooperation with other regional Heads of Processing in order to manage the department within the global policies, guidelines and strategies
- Monitor and verify regional departmental resources (equipment, warehouse and machine capacity, supplies, labor) are operational in order to ensure that processing results are conducted within established product and quality guidelines and are timely and accurate
- Direct and facilitate the regional techniques, equipment, processes, procedures, protocols and working instructions of the regional Processing team, in order to ensure timeliness of decisions, communication within and across functional department lines in order to ensure that financial requirements and quality standards are met
- Ensure that Standard Operations Procedures will be implemented and maintained according the guidelines and standards set globally in order to maintain quality and consistency within the global Processing standards
- Assure integrity of inventoried goods at the regional entity including all seed products, from time of receipt from Production through all processes and warehousing in order to ensure customer demands of product receipt are met
- Identify and coordinate regional Processing activities in order to ensure that seed qualities on short and medium term range are met according global Processing standards
- Create an environment to support applied experimental schemes in close cooperation with Analyst Process Optimization and Research Seed Technology in order to ensure improvement and/or up-scaling of (new) technologies and processes
- Implement new seed processing processes and seed technology products in order to ensure that product meets the demands of the market
- Establish and maintain good contacts with seed technology companies and suppliers by frequent communication and visits, with special focus on companies of which we license in technologies in order to maintain current knowledge expertise and a positive image for Nunhems
- Take care for a strong internal complaint management in case of a complaint within the Processing environment due to a process failure. Analyze all available process data in cooperation with your team, arrange meetings to discuss the results with all people involved from other departments and report into the organization in a clear and constructive way in order to ensure that problems are solved and future failures will be avoided
- Define and promote a safe working environment for all departmental workers through active participation in accordance with corporate, local, state and federal mandates in order to ensure regulatory compliance
- Manage, direct, and coordinate the personnel flow within the department, including appraisal, training and development and career planning by using HR instruments, guidelines, procedures and advise in order to select and maintain competent employees and ensure a efficient and effective functioning department
- Through continual communication and distribution of monthly reporting, keep supervisor informed of on-going departmental activities and work in process
- Continual monitoring and evaluation of the department budget and expenditures, ensuring capital and overhead costs are within defined targets
- Coordinate all investment projects within the regional processing entity while having a close collaboration in the global Processing department to ensure uniform implementation of equipment, technologies and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills
Knowledge of domestic and international vegetable seed market and processing protocols
Excellent communication skills and ability to cooperatively interface with all corporate departments
Cooperative, flexible and willing to work in a team atmosphere
Technical and strategic thinking faculty especially within area of responsibility
Capable to manage, motivate and stimulate people in challenging and difficult (often stressful) working environment
Should possess the following competencies: Leadership, Management, Organizing, and Analyzing
Required Experience
Bachelor's/Master's degree in Seed Science, Horticulture or related field
Ten plus years of cumulative experience in vegetable seed regarding warehousing, seed conditioning, seed enhancement, seed treatment and packaging / shipping
Minimum five years experience in a managerial capacity
