Assistant Breeder

Location: Sonora, Mexico


Murray River Seed Co. is a next-generation vegetable seed company situated on the fertile soils of the Murray River in Albury, NSW, Australia.

Founded by vegetable seed industry professionals, we prioritize agility and a true customer focus. Our breeding program thrives on innovation dedicated to solving farmers' challenges head-on!

We're seeking a team member to assist our Principal Breeder in Line Development and Trialing of watermelon, melon, and cucumber hybrid varieties.

Do you posses experience in plant breeding logistics, familiarity with Mexican vegetable markets, attention to detail, and a blend of field and computer work? If you're enthusiastic about ownership, responsibility, and enjoy working with plants and growers, we want to hear from you!

We welcome candidates with a few years of experience or more, offering an opportunity to expand knowledge, receive mentorship from industry professionals, travel, and be rewarded for your efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Principal Breeder in a Hybrid Breeding Process.
  • Develop screening trials in Mexico and assist with evaluation of other trials.
  • Interface with external team of breeding software, genetic, off-season, and other service providers.
  • Develop and maintain close contacts with sales, growers, and other seed industry stakeholders.

REQUIRED

  • Qualifications in Agriculture; breeding program experience preferred, both bachelor’s and master’s degrees accepted, or relevant experience.
  • Ability and willingness to be part of a cutting-edge breeding program, with extensive national and international travel.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, ready to take initiative.
  • Self-motivated, comfortable working independently and in a team.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, attention to detail, and commitment to long-term success.
  • Legal authorization to work in Mexico; position based in Sonora.
  • English proficiency
