RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a Patent Counsel turning innovation in the area of plant biotech and breeding into effective IP value. Our multidisciplinary, international team supports BASF's cutting-edge innovation pipeline dedicated to the development of novel seeds and traits.

This is what you can expect

• You will acquire in-depth knowledge of the technologies, strategies and objectives of the areas you cover to achieve business objectives.
• You will analyse BASF's research and development results with regard to the protectability and value of achievable protection.
• You will be responsible for protecting these results with intellectual property rights.
• You will be involved in IP contract negotiations and drafting of IP contracts.
• You will analyse third-party intellectual property rights with regard to their scope of protection and their impact on possible BASF products and processes.
• In this context, you will advise the business unit on all available options.
• You will design patent portfolios that are optimally aligned with the business strategy and ensure that they are used worldwide to enforce business interests.

QUALIFICATIONS

• You have completed your studies in breeding, genetics or biochemistry / biotechnology.
• A good understanding of digital (breeding) technologies is a plus.
• You have a strong affinity with Intellectual Property. Preferably you have professional experience in a patent department or in a patent law firm.
• Qualification as European Patent Attorney is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of IP contracts is a plus.
• Convincing and business fluent communication in English is necessary.
• You are curious and open minded with a sound understanding of business interests.
• You are known as a good team player.
