R&D Trial Officer

Fulltime
The objective of this position is to support the R&D field testing needs for the assigned region. The trial officer will have the responsibility for the coordination and implementation of a multi-crop R&D field trial program (long-day onion, watermelon, tomato, brassicas, radish, etc.) For this position Hazera Seeds is seeking an enthusiastic, results-oriented, and highly communicative individual. You will be a member of R&D Operation Team reporting to USA R&D Operations Manager. You will have close interaction with the local management, product development, and commercial department of Hazera USA Inc. You will be based in the Central Valley of California, USA, preferably in the Fresno metropolitan area.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Work with R&D Operations Manager & global breeding teams to gather regional field trial needs and translate into a regional R&D field trial operational plan.
- Actively manage the R&D field trial plan, including placement of trials, sowing, transplanting, evaluation, etc.
- Actively steer trial success and quality data gathering; monitor and report on progress.
- Carry out evaluation of trials and support the breeding team with variety selection
- Support Breeding in seed extraction activities for off-farm trials
- Interact with local authorities in order to get phytosanitary certificates and export permits for off-farm trials
- Interact with nurseries, growers, seed dealers and laboratories as needed
- Actively communicate with R&D Operations Manager, Breeders, PD Manager, Sales Managers and other relevant parties per trial status.
- Contribute to the further development of a global R&D trial network through engagement and collaborative interaction with colleagues in different regions.
Profile:
- BS in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agribusiness or related field.
- Agronomical background/experience or field vegetable or fresh produce crop research/production.
- Basic understanding of plant breeding
- Experience in field trialing, including trial setup and field evaluations.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently with strong critical thinking, organizational & communication skills.
- Expertise in MS Office Suite and data analysis. Ability to communicate frequently & professionally.
- Ability to use field data collection instruments & devices, as required.
- Ability to travel frequently within the United States & to work under various environmental conditions associated with field trial work (heat, dust, insects…)
- Fluent in English, Spanish also desirable
- Valid driver’s license.
