Business Development Lead

Location: Davis, California, USA


POSITION SUMMARY

GreenVenus, LLC is focused on accelerating innovation in agriculture with proprietary products and platforms enabling sustainable food production for a growing population. With next generation plant propagation, speed breeding, and technologies for hybridization of crops, GreenVenus seeks to improve the quality of food for consumers and benefits for growers.

We are seeking a Business Development Lead that will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with clients and potential clients/customers; closing sales deals and following up as the principal point of contact between GreenVenus and its customers/clients/partners.  The ideal candidate will draw upon their understanding of complex market dynamics to drive new market opportunities for establishing potential partnerships in the rapidly growing Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and open field crops.  The candidate will be heavily involved in business discussions and part of a team to generate and execute on the creation of opportunities to rapidly advance products and collaborations around the platforms.  The ideal candidate will have a diverse understanding of the various agricultural market segments and production systems and methodologies and have the capacity to perform commercial assessment, including market viability, customer targeting, and business case development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Join the leadership to identify and develop new business opportunities within the agricultural space as well as build and expand on the GreenVenus presence.
  • Manage, design, develop, and implement GreenVenus solutions for our customer/partner base and close deals that will contribute to the commercial success of the company.
  • Develop long and short growth strategies with focus on specific markets for various types of crops.
  • Work with third party technology partners.
  • Design, organize, and conduct trial programs in target market zones and build a sales team.
  • Identify appropriate market opportunities and make recommendations for advancement and commercialization into those spaces.
  • Create goals to produce new products by translating market requirements and future needs from the marketing and sales team.
  • Manage business development and sales budget and resources.
  • Collaborate with other research and product development team members of the company to exchange ideas, data and other items to maximize performance of the team.
  • Develop, coordinate and create the crop PVP/IP strategy and activities that promote and protect Company’s intellectual property.
  • Manage budget and resources.

     Supervisory:          To be determined

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Genetics, Crop Science or Ag business desirable. 
  • MBA is a plus.

DESIRED KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum ten years of commercial work for a seed company or an agricultural technology company after graduation.
  • Strong experience in agriculture
  • Proven track record in building sales and closing deals
  • Experience in budget and personnel management, including recruitment and development of staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment with multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Language skills: Fluent English required.
  • Experience in an international work environment; ability to deal with various and diverse cultures and work habits.
  • Ability to travel domestically (and internationally).

Work Authorization: U.S. Work Authorization

Start Date:  ASAP

Position:  Full time

Compensation:  Salary based on experience with a competitive benefits package.
