Currently based in Woodland and moving to the West Sacramento, CA area in mid-2019, Nuseed has an exciting opportunity for a Molecular Biologist providing assistance to senior scientists in developing and employing molecular markers to support breeding, production, and QA/QC in sunflower, canola and sorghum research. You will perform experiments while keeping clear and accurate records, analyzing data and writing research reports.

Reach Your Potential

• Assist senior scientists in conducting lab experiments and analyzing data to support molecular breeding for sunflower, canola and sorghum.
• Participate in sample collection and preparation, DNA extraction, assay development, validation and employment, genotyping
• Lead, design and execute small projects with little supervision and assistance
• Record lab activities and write reports: document experiments on lab notebook on daily basis and write experiment reports upon milestones achieved and/or projects completed
• Keep wet lab a safe and neat environment, maintain instrumentation and monitor and ensure proper lab supplies for projects
• Coordinate daily wet lab activities and tissue sample collections at breeding stations

Required:

• Bachelors or Master’s Degree in plant genetics, plant biology, plant breeding or related field

Preferred:

• Applicants should have extensive experience in DNA extraction, genotyping and trait mapping.
• The right candidate can design and conduct experiments independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with lab automation systems and/or in high throughput genotyping is a plus and industrial experience is preferred.
• Effective oral & written communication skills.
