The need to help poor and hungry people grow some of their own food is
great. SPI's limited financial resources enables us to reach only a tiny
fraction of those who are in need. Additional financial support would
enable SPI to reach more people as well as improving program
effectiveness.
Financial contributions enabling SPI to provide seed are multiplied
many, many times over, having a greater multiplier effect than with
donations made to most other humanitarian efforts. This multiplier
effect is possible because seed recipients provide all the labor, land,
equipment and materials needed to produce their own food. Cost of
shipping bulky food is eliminated. In addition, SPI's low cost
operations also contribute to this multiplier effect. A family can be
supplied 10 packets of vegetable seed to plant a good size garden for
about $1 dollar. A garden planted with SPI seed can produce 100 pounds
of food, or more in the hands of skilled gardeners, valued at many, many
times the cost of the seed. A donor's financial contribution to SPI is
multiplied many times over by the value of food produced.
You or your organization can participate with a cash contribution.
SPI can match your cash contribution with a needy program in a
developing country. SPI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Your
cash contribution is tax deductible.
