Canada - BASF now sells biological seed treatments

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
November 28, 2013

BASF is now a leading global provider of biological seed treatments as well as seed treatment colorants and polymers. With the acquisition of Becker Underwood complete, BASF now offers a full portfolio of innovative inoculants for peas, lentils and soybeans.

Until now, BASF has not been part of the biologicals market. The acquisition offers growers an entire crop life cycle solution. BASF will provide growers with more innovative tools to add to their crop protection strategy, offering protection from the seed through to harvest.

"BASF has had a strong desire to be involved in crop protection decisions and now we can take part in what goes into the seed. Biologicals will play a key role in our success. BASF wants to bring innovation through sustainability to our customers," said Scott Kay, Business Director for BASF Canada. "Our goal is to provide growers with a strong investment in weed management, disease management, and the entire functional crop care area."

BASF has established a new Functional Crop Care division as part of its current Crop Protection division. This merges research, development and marketing activities in the areas of seed treatment, biological crop protection and plant health.
