Job description

In this position you will represent the Breeder in setting up and executing the Breeding program. You will be responsible for:

• Line and hybrid development for EMEA and Global Melon markets according to the company Business, Marketing and Sales (M&S) and Research and Development (R&D) plan.
• Participate in Global Melon R&D Team, as a part of multidisciplinary scientific effort.
• Improve efficiency and productivity of the breeding program by optimizing use and integration of new technologies with conventional breeding techniques.
• Work closely with M&S to align breeding goals with current and future market needs and those of our customers.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of the global melon industry to provide insight to the product development process.
• Prepare, implement and monitor specified crop budgets and operational plans.
• Manage, support and direct the breeding team personnel in alignment with Bayer Crop Science Vegetable Seeds, corporate values, vision and safety.

You will be based in Southern Europe.

Type of contract: permanent.

Your qualifications

• PhD in Genetics / Plant Breeding or related disciplines.
• Minimum of 5 years melon breeding experience required.
• In depth working knowledge of horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology, statistics, physiology and molecular genetics.

Experience and skills

• Organization, breeding program management and planning
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must be fluent in English.
