VICE PRESIDENT, GENETIC BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Aurora’s Science and Innovation team is launching a new business that leverages off of its world-class breeding program to license genetics to licensed producers. Our Coast facility on Vancouver Island is one of the largest and most advanced cannabis breeding centres in the world. Our team includes specialists in breeding, pathology, genomics and molecular biology. We apply cutting edge technology to develop elite genetics.  
 
Reporting to the SVP, Science & Innovation, we are looking for a dynamic, experienced leader to join the A-team as a Vice President, Genetic Business Development, who can build our licensing business across Canada and around the globe. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to be on the ground floor of an exciting new venture. Think of it as a start-up but backed by the resources of one of the largest cannabis companies in the world.

The position would be ideally based in Vancouver, but the successful candidate could also work out of Toronto or Edmonton. The position will involve domestic and international travel, approximately 25-30% of the time.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of all aspects involving business development for genetics licensing
  • Client recruitment
  • Overseeing trialing and shipping of plant materials
  • Drafting business unit budgets and action plans
  • Presenting to the executive leadership team and the board for updates and approvals

The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics and experience:

  • Proven track record of building B2B client relationships and trust
  • Experience in licensing intellectual property in the agricultural or horticulture fields
  • Knowledge of Plant Breeders Rights and other intellectual property protections both domestic and international
  • Understanding of plant breeding and cultivar development in seed grown and clonally propagated crops
  • Knowledge of phytosanitary issues associated with shipping plant material domestically and internationally
  • A BSc or BAg background or equivalent

Additional consideration will be given to those with:

  • Knowledge of the cannabis industry
  • Experience with a startup or small business
  • An MBA or other business background
  • Post graduate degree in breeding or plant genetics
