Main Goal

HM.CLAUSE is a Business Unit of Limagrain, an international agricultural co-operative founded and managed by farmers. HM.CLAUSE specializes in the breeding, production, and sale of vegetable seeds. Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of pepper breeders, the Seasonal Operations Aide will provide hands-on support for all typical on-site/off-site field activities and on-site greenhouse activities. Position will also help in the upload of key data to our breeding operating system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned:

NOTE: This position requires work on weekends and holidays.

Breeding and Research Support

  • Assist breeding program in field logistics, field maintenance, trial evaluation, and harvest.
  • Organizing and working alongside other workers in the greenhouse and field
  • Conduct training for workers involved in key breeding activities
  • Seed packaging, inventory, shipment preparation
  • Data entry into breeder or research databases and spreadsheets
  • Count and prepare seed for planting and shipping
  • Perform all tasks and behave in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices
  • Assist the breeders and research assistant in any additional tasks required
  • Support general field, office, or greenhouse activities as needed

Field and Greenhouse Support

  • Help set up equipment and tools associated with key station activities including sowing, harvesting, seed extraction, fruit handling and processing and seed packaging
  • Collecting data and samples from nursery and hybrid trials
  • Assist in pollen collection and pollinating crossing blocks
  • Maintain a high standard of precision and diligence in creating high-quality seed
  • General operational support for breeding and plant pathology projects and programs
  • Work alongside contract laborers conducting routine operational and breeding activities

Laboratory Support

  • Technical support for plant quality analysis on a seasonal basis, including production and analysis of fruit extracts for quality analysis
  • Collection and processing of plant samples (seed, leaf, fruit, etc.) for molecular analysis by research teams
  • Collection and processing of fruit samples (seed, leaf, fruit, etc.) for quality lab analysis by research teams

Profile

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • University graduate or
  • 5+ years field/greenhouse operations experience in a research or production setting.

Required Knowledge and Skills

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of routine field and greenhouse growing practices and requirements.
  •  High level of manual dexterity and ability to complete tasks with a high level of accuracy required
  • Must be able to perform job responsibilities and testing activities accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Strong communication, training others on basic tasks when needed
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Word, Excel, email programs.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and also independently.
  • Have good verbal and communication skills.
  • Adaptability – Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work OT as needed to meet field season demands.
  • Attendance/Punctuality - Ensures work responsibilities are covered.
  • Dependability - Ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner with attention to detail
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Bilingual (Conversational Level) in English and Spanish is highly preferred
