Traits & Technology Geneticist, Allium

Location: Rilland, The Netherlands

The position of Traits & Technology Geneticist gives you the opportunity to do cutting edge scientific work while contributing to the success of Hazera's products.

The main role of this position is to lead multiple projects in the field of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics aiming to implement advanced technologies for producing improved commercial products.

You work closely together with colleagues from Hazera as well as from our mother company Limagrain Group who owns a leading position in the world's vegetable seeds business. You work independently and as a part of the R&D team within and between disciplines (including phytopathology, pre-breeding, breeding, cell biology, bioinformatics, breeding and operations) and will manage a large network of stakeholders such as breeders, marketing experts and external collaborators.

You have several opportunities to stay up to date in your field of expertise, for example by doing training courses and visiting conferences and events in the Netherlands and abroad. You are based in Rilland, the Netherlands, where our R&D team for Allium crops is located and report to the Team Leader Traits & Technology Allium.

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Initiate, plan, lead and execute multidisciplinary programs aimed at:
    • Reveal and utilize the underlying molecular mechanisms for line improvement
    • Identification and introduction of new traits into breeding lines
  • Management of all operational aspects connected to project trials (field and technology)
  • Lead projects in a matrix organisation within the company as well as with external companies and organizations.
  • Participate and be pro-active in the global group activities and committees
  • Maintain high level of professionalism and cutting edge technologies
  • Maintain, build and leverage internal and external networks to support delivery of business goals

Job requirements:

  • Minimum PhD in quantitative genetics and plant science; background in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics and programing is an advantage;
  • Experienced with cutting edge technologies: NGS, genotyping technologies, association studies, gene discovery and quantitative genetics analysis strategies, tools and databases; background in expression profiling and proteomics is an advantage;
  • Analytical and critical mindset with strong problem-solving and pro-active attitude;
  • Organized and leader capabilities, experience in teamwork and project management is a plus;
  • Proven innovative;
  • Hands-on mentality and experience in outdoor trial work;
  • Excellent command of the English language;
  • Willing to travel internationally a few times per year (3-5 days per trip).
