You will help shape the future of agriculture by:
- Using agronomic expertise and collaborating with production teams to identify opportunities that drive yield and seed quality improvements in seeds production
- Designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to drive implementation of new technologies in seeds production
- Driving innovation and influencing changes that benefit the seed supply chain and farmers while making agriculture environmentally more sustainable
Accountabilities
- Support the development and execution of the NA seeds production field technology project portfolio. It includes effective alignment with stakeholders, successful execution, and communication of results and recommendations with production teams
- Coordinate and execute day-to-day field technology activities, manage personnel workload and task assignments at the research site
- Lead and assist with experimental design and trial creation. This involves identifying relevant technology projects, determining seed/agricultural product entry lists, and making all necessary preparations to ensure timely experiment execution and completion
- Assure that field activities for all projects (planting, plot maintenance, and harvest) are properly executed. It includes routine site/farm maintenance activities such as tillage, soil sampling, fertilizer applications, planting plots, applying/implementing treatments, collecting observations and in-season data, and maintaining plots throughout the growing season. Fall activities include harvest stand counts and actual plot harvest.
- Assist with hiring, managing, and developing part-time workers
- Manage research activities of contract staff. This includes prioritizing tasks, assigning workloads, and coordination of data collection activities
- Collaborate with other internal teams (SPR Parent Characterization, Parent Seeds, Production) to execute technology projects that helps to solve producibility challenges of Syngenta’s genetic pipeline
- Analyze data and prepare research reports and presentations. Interpret analysis and develop presentations for functional customers
- Connect and collaborate with Global SPR network to identify technologies from other regions with potential for testing in NA
- Share learnings with other regions aiming to identify opportunities to solve issues and deliver benefits by leveraging data and expertise across regions while avoiding duplication and redundancy
- Maintain awareness of competitive developments and key technologies in the seed production and adjacent industries, along with external technology institutions to ensure that innovations are identified, evaluated, and implemented
- Use and promote Lean Six Sigma methodologies within SPR and Seeds Operations to drive productivity
- Ensure full HSE compliance and promote environmentally sustainable solutions
- Representation of Syngenta: Builds trust inside the company and in the local community showing ethical considerations. Ensure Syngenta values are reflected in company activities, and effectively promote SPR with customers and stakeholders
Qualifications
Requirements
- Graduate education/degree preferred but can be supplemented with significant relevant experience
- Seeds production knowledge across a range of crops required (3 years of industry experience)
- Thorough understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis
- Appreciation of statistical or modeling approaches
- Organization, planning, pro-activity and reactivity leadership, flexibility, and availability
- Impactful communication, open-minded, with an aptitude to develop easy contacts with all customers
- Cross functional and multi-cultural project management aptitude
- LEAN Six Sigma certification desired
- Role will require travels
- Requires occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds during the physically demanding growing season
- Exposure to inclement weather conditions while working outside
- 40% of work performed in standard office
- 60% of work performed at production locations, field, or meetings
