Job Purpose

IRRI is leading the Module on ‘Evidence’ in the new CGIAR GENDER Platform. ‘Evidence’ will be at the heart of the GENDER Platform activities contributing to achieving the reinforcing visions of the Platform as well as OneCGIAR. We are aiming for a world where Gender Equality (GE) drives food systems transformation and vice-versa. We desire food systems that are sustainable, equitable, climate-resilient, nutritious, and productive. Catalysing these transformations needs evidence-based research, development, and policy options. Gender gaps and inequalities continue to persist as investment decisions, programs, and policies are often not grounded in a strong evidence base. The Evidence module aims to identify and fill the evidence gaps, in collaboration with partners within and beyond CGIAR (research, academia, public and private sectors, practitioners). It aims to position GENDER as the go-to-place for high-quality evidence and knowledge on equitable and sustainable food systems. It aims to communicate the evidence it collates/generates to influence agriculture and natural resource management R4D policy and practice to facilitate the design of pathways for equitable food systems transformations.

This position will support the Evidence Module leader, Module, and Platform teams in supporting managing implementation and reporting of module activities and associated partnerships.

Reporting to the Module Leader for Evidence and, working closely with the Platform and other two module teams, the Project Manager will:

  • Manage the implementation of day to day activities of the module, including managing CGIAR and Non-CGIAR partnerships
  • Provide technical support to teams implementing module activities
  • Oversee and contribute to design and implementation of Module MEL and Knowledge Management activities, in collaboration with partners
  • Lead reporting of module activities, progress, and achievements

This position will be based in Hyderabad and be only filled by permanent citizens of India.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To plan and manage module and work package activities
  • Lead coordination and support contributions of work package leaders and associated partners and teams
  • Coordinate delivery and reporting of outputs and outcomes aligned with the Module and Platform vision, mission, values, target goals, policies, and procedures
  • Support in implementation and reporting of Module MEL and KM strategies and plans
  • Build and maintain collaboration with research and academic partners, including work package leaders
  • Develop partnerships and coordinate with other CG centers for joint advocacy and knowledge generation and sharing on gender, evidence, and impact issues
  • Manage alignment with Platform, Module and Work Package Leaders and Research Support to assure cross-center and cross-module synergy
  • Plan and participate in the regular module and project planning and management meetings 
  • Coordinate and liaise with CGIAR and non-CGIAR partners for effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting of module activities
  • Coordinate and liaise with other modules to ensure coherence and integrated delivery for the Platform
  • Guide the project teams in managing field operations, collating and compiling field information, and developing progress reports as and when required.
  • Liaison with work package researcher teams and partners with troubleshooting in the event of problems with specific research projects
  • Organize workshops, meetings, conferences, and, training in collaboration with the Platform Communications team and other modules. 
  • Take the lead in preparing and/or compiling periodic reports and submissions to the Platform and beyond, to report the progress of activities and for funding requests. 
  • Work with the Module Leader to develop and review the financial plan for efficient delivery of the overall project. 
  • Design a Risk Management Strategy and schedule meetings, document actions, exercise oversight on specific risks and follow up with the Risk owner on management and mitigation measures.
  • Support development of fit-for-purpose KM and communications materials in collaboration with the Platform and IRRI communications teams.
  • Develop technical and financial report on the work of the module

Qualifications

MSc/Master’s degree in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Geography or related field with 4-5 years’ experience in Gender R4D in agriculture or food systems or, 

PhD in Rural Sociology, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Geography or related field with 1 to 2 years’ experience in Gender R4D in agriculture or food systems

Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Sound understanding of Gender in Ag issues and Ag R4D
  • Excellent Written and Oral communication skills in English
  • Evidence of high-quality communication products for different audiences
  • Experience of working with R&D partners nationally and globally
  • Experience with R4D project management, including planning, physical and financial implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting
  • Sound interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team

Preferred

  • Understanding of and experience with developing, implementing and reporting and Knowledge Management strategies and plans
  • Experience with gender mainstreaming in R4D projects
  • Experience with the design of projects and programs
  • Experience with budgeting and financial management and monitoring of projects

Allowances

  • House-Rent Allowance:IRRI provides a house rent allowance of 40% of base pay per month.
  • Transport Allowance:A monthly transport allowance is provided to NRS as below: NRS L6: INR 5,000
  • Dearness Allowance:One Hundred and Thirteen percent (113%) of employee’s base pay.
  • Leave Travel Allowance (LTA):One-month base pay per annum, on availing minimum 2 days of vacation leave
  • Education Allowance:INR 1000/- per child per month (limited 2 children)
