Main Goal

The main mission of the Bean pre-breeder is to support varietal creation and innovation in collaboration with Limagrain Vegetable Seeds (LVS) breeding and technology teams. The Bean Pre-Breeder will propose and lead Limagrain Vegetable Seeds upstream research projects on Bean to transfer improved and novel genetic material to the breeding teams of the 3 LVS business units (Vilmorin-Mikado, HM.Clause, Hazera).

Job description

Main missions:

  • Collect, maintain and characterize genetic resources
  • Identify innovative traits in collaboration with breeders
  • Genetic trait dissection selecting the most relevant approaches and generating appropriate populations
  • Lead/participate (to) trait projects in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams (breeding, pathology, markers, genomics)
  • Develop new phenotyping methodologies for selected traits
  • Manage a small team
  • Monitor technological developments in terms of general and fundamental pre-breeding knowledge in collaboration with other LVS pre-breeders
  • Database implementation and/or management

Profile

  • Scientific degree specialized in Genetics/Breeding (Master's, PhD)
  • Good knowledge of population, quantitative and molecular genetics applied to plant improvement
  • Knowledge in pathology, physiology, and data statistical analyses
  • Genuine field and plant observation interest
  • Affinity for field and greenhouse work
  • Ability to propose and manage multiple projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills:
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and within a multicultural & matrix environment
  • Leadership skills and ability to manage people
  • Good organization and coordination abilities
  • Fluent in English and some knowledge of French and eager to become fluent in French
  • Ability to travel to interact with LVS and external collaborators and to visit trials
  • Inquisitive and innovative

Permanent position based in La Ménitré (France-49), working with teams in France and worldwide.
