To support that challenge, the Global Seeds Development team is currently seeking a Germplasm Asset Management Head, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. As the Head of Germplasm Asset Management, you will extract maximum value from Syngenta’s Germplasm Assets by leading a global team.

You will help shape the future of agriculture by:

  • Leading the development and implementation of breeding collaboration strategy, and by maximizing strategic benefits of these collaborations to the Syngenta Seed business in the short and long-term.
Accountabilities
  • Drive adoption of advanced methodologies in crop breeding and germplasm development, toward the strategic goal of increasing rate of genetic gain for yield and achieving improved and profitable seed products through global germplasm utilization and exploitation.
  • Ensure protection of our germplasm assets through the judicious creation and enforcement of Intellectual Property (IP).
  • Provide industry leading traits in the best germplasm as rapidly and cost effectively as possible.
  • Develop breeding collaboration strategy to optimize value both from our existing global field germplasm portfolio and maximize opportunities to generate incremental value from all breeding collaborations.
  • Monitor progress against milestones and resource use and driving metric based project decision processes across our breeding collaboration portfolio.
  • Ensure that breeding collaboration projects and programs comply with relevant Regulatory regulations, and Syngenta Stewardship, and Quality Management policies and requirements.
  • Ensure that Seeds Development projects and programs in portfolio adhere to all legal obligations and requirements defined in legal agreements and contracts
  • Drive Breeding Project Reviews to create, manage, and report metrics for successful implementation of the strategy.
  • Ensure the protection of our germplasm assets through creation and enforcement of IP with internal partners to minimize Legal and IP threats related to seed movement and protecting Syngenta’s Freedom to Operate.
Qualifications
 
Requirements
  • PhD in Agronomy, Plant Breeding and Genetics or relevant field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a global R&D environment working in the plant breeding and seed industry.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in a leadership role in a global plant breeding program, specifically deployment of trait technologies, strategic plans, contractual agreements, resource planning and budget management.
  • Project, program and portfolio management knowledge to deliver goals in a complex organization (cross functional, cross-sites) and technical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence colleagues across functional boundaries, and to develop and implement fit for purpose processes and tools.
  • Experience managing high performance projects and teams.
  • Experience successfully leading teams in an international and multidisciplinary project team environment, with a proven track record of developing talent.
  • Experience in Seeds Product Selection and advancing global germplasm strategies is a plus.
