QC Physiological Testing Technical Expert

What You Will Do:
This position provides technical expertise for Physiological Quality Control Testing for vegetable seeds in the Americas region. This role ensures all testing protocols meet company standards. It also ensures that they are in compliance with state, federal and international seed regulatory requirements. The incumbent will interact and exchange data with global Syngenta scientists to optimize, validate and implement testing methods, and provide subject matter expertise on physiological testing. The employee in this role will also represent the company in professional societies.
Who You Are:
- Provide expert knowledge and understanding of Physiological Testing. Work with vendors, internal physiological testing laboratory and sales and marketing team in the areas of testing portfolio, process controls, data interpretations and reporting to ensure compliance with the Federal Seed Act and Syngenta’s Codes of Practice
- Work closely with the Laboratory Operations Manager to ensure that physiological testing activities, both internally and with 3rd party laboratories, maintain company quality standards, and assure that these standards reflect or exceed industry levels recognized by Association of Official Seed Analysts / Society of Commercial Seed Technologists (AOSA/SCST) or International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) standards
- Maintain documentation for physiological testing processes, and develop new documentation as processes change
- Ensure all testing procedures follow accurate execution and interpretation of process steps in accordance with the Federal Seed Act and Syngenta’s Codes of Practice
- Work in conjunction with the global method development team to develop and validate internal testing protocols
- Conduct testing and field investigations for seed physiology related customer complaints and inquiries
- Provide support to field production and plant conditioning in areas of technical expertise (i.e. protocols and training for seed sampling, repair, and interpretation of results.)
- Oversee germination and vigor field trials to support quality control decision making, and method development
- Represent the company interests at an industry level to communicate and influence change regarding seed regulatory and testing issues
- Participate in referee testing and experimentation to identify new test methods
- Analyze research data and presents conclusions in detailed reports and presentations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
You Have:
- Advanced degree in biological sciences preferred (BS Required)
- Registered Seed Technologist (RST) or willingness and ability to become certified
- Experience in a Seed Physiology Lab
- Proficient with Microsoft office suite
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis software such as JMP or SAS
You Might Also Have:
- Strong understanding of physiological testing methods for vegetable seeds
- Knowledge of National and International Seed Laws and Quality Standards
- Experience with AOSA and ISTA methods for seed analysis
- Experience in an international work environment; ability to deal with various and diverse cultures and work habits.
- Understanding of vendor management practices including referee test design and analysis and auditing procedures
