Main Goal

Seasonal job holder performs protocols to support Cell Biology production activities. Primary role is aimed to assist dihaploid plant creation in both the laboratory and greenhouse. Data tracking and data entry is routine. Independence is requisite in routine activities

Job description

• Emphasis on culture induction under aseptic conditions (i.e. anther culture / gynogenesis / embryo rescue)
• Experience with lab equipment (centrifuge / pipetting / flow cytometry / autoclave / Laminar flow hood)
• Lab housekeeping that includes glassware cleaning, equipment maintenance
• Greenhouse plant acclimation of in vitro materials
• Greenhouse plant maintenance of donor plants for in vitro or dihaploid applications
• Data entry of lab results and labor tracking via written and/or computer entries
• Aid in greenhouse housekeeping: pest maintenance / fertilizer preparation / monitoring of ec and pH values
• Support provided on an “as needed” basis for other ongoing projects in the lab Support teams
• Routine and prolonged application of manual dexterity
• Work in lab and greenhouse conditions requisite

Profile

• This position requires a non-smoker based on job responsibilities related to greenhouses and the potential for Tobacco Mosaic Virus (TMV) contamination
• Basic computer skills needed in Microsoft Office programs (particularly MS Excel) and Microsoft Outlook.
• Ability to work in hot/humid conditions that occur seasonally in greenhouse.
• Ability to reach trellised crops or plant material at variable heights or distances (will require extending reach and using tools such as step stools)
• Must comply with company safety rules
