  • Design and execute effective biotic and abiotic selection indices. Use of molecular markers to facilitate selection, as applicable. Use fields and greenhouses for other selection, trait and performance validation. Plan and execute crossing blocks to make new hybrids with the combinations of grower and consumer traits to meet watermelon nutrition, production, and market criteria. Set up crossing blocks to maximize efficient use of space and labor considering plant culture, pollination, and seed harvest activities.
